• basis for knowing what we know
• science - tools to facilitate discover, expanding knowledge, understanding - collaboration, leapfrog

• NASA - mostly engineering, applied science

need both science (nature) and engineering (man-made) to move forward / deeper. sometimes have to wait for one to catch-up

• observe planets, stars - telescope to "see" finer details
• microscopes to "see" germs
• measurement - time - clocks, speed - radar, weight - balance, scales
